ORANGE  FESTIVAL

 

The Tamenglong District is one of the five Hill Districts of Manipur, least developed comparing to other Districts of Manipur. The District is bounded by Nagaland in the North, in the South by Churchandpur, in the East by Senapati District in the West by Assam and Jiribam Sub-division of the Imphal East District in the South-West.The District is at an altitude of 1260 MSL. It is situated between North Latitudes 24°.30´N and 25°.27´N and East Longitudes 93°10´E and 94°54’E.The District has a total geographical area of 4,391 sq. kms. The distance from the State Head Qtr. is 159 Kms. Climatically, the Tamenglong District is sub-tropical. Because of the high altitude summers are mild with maximum temperature of 27ºC, except in the valleys, and winters are cold with minimum temperature of 5ºC. Rainfall is generally heavy and ranges from 2500-3200 mm.
 After sponsoring a two day Seminar on Resource Mobilisation for Socio-economic Development held at the Indoor Stadium, District Head Qtr.Tamenglong organised by an NGO, Agency for Rural Development & Upliftment Tamenglong from 18-19 Sept.2003, with the objective to harvest the rich unique specific location resource of the District the present 3rd Orange Festival has also been sponsored for two days from 16-17 Dec.2003 by Manipur Small Farmers' Agri-Business Consortium. The first Orange Festival was started in the year 2001.The Festival organised by the Organising Committee Orange Festival Tamenglong was also sponsored by Manipur Small Farmers' Agri-Business Consortium. The 3rd Orange Festival was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly Shri. T.N.Haokip. The dignitaries attended in the inaugural function were Shri.Gaikhangam, Hon'ble Minister for PWD, Shri. Mangi Singh, Hon'ble Minister for IFCD, Shri.K.Ranjit Singh, Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture, Shri. Loken Singh, Hon'ble Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Shri.Bijoy Koijam, Hon'ble Minister for Family Welfare. To mark the inaugural function, Hon'ble Speaker who graced the function as Chief Guest has also launched a new web-site for Orange Festival Tamenglong which could be log on;
